(slow dramatic music) – [Announcer] Hello everybody from Evanston, Illinois here on the campus of Northwestern University. And it’s the Big 10
opener for the Spartans and the Northwestern Wildcats. Northwestern comes in here defending the Western division
championship in the Big 10. – [Team] Family! – [Announcer] It’s a strength
versus strength type of matchup with Michigan
State needing to come out and continue what they have been doing over the last few weeks offensively and that is gain yardage but now be more effective in the red zone. Michigan State will have an opportunity against the stingy defensive
of the Northwestern Wildcats, on the ground in my opinion. You have to find a way
to get some movement open lanes and run the ball
and open it up for the pass down the road because it
looks like it’s gonna be a little rain out here. – [Announcer] Northwestern won the toss, deferred so Michigan State
will get the ball first. Play action here Lewerke
moving to his left looking down field for
White, who makes the catch. And a flag down, probably
interference on A.J. Hampton. Good adjustment by White. – [Announcer] Three wide outs for Lewerke, handoff to Elijah Collins off left guard broke a tackle, gets to the goal line and he’s into the end zone. Touchdown M-S-U. – [Announcer] Just an excellent drive for this Spartan offense. – [Announcer] So now Northwestern
has a decision to make. (crowd cheering)
Kick that field goal put some points on the
board or take a chance on trying to punch it in
against this very stingy and tough Spartan defense. They’ll go for it. – Johnson goes left.
– Oh my. – [Announcer] And he’s down
back at the three yard line, Mike Panasiuk made the tackle. (crowd cheering)
– Great stand by the Michigan State defense. – [Announcer] Yeah, defense
needs a little take away you wanna go up with another score five 52 left in the half here. If you can, you do not
want to shift the momentum to Northwestern there’s
a decent crowd here. – [Announcer] Here’s Northwestern, moves it into Michigan State territory at the two minute mark down four. Johnson looking down field and that pass is almost picked off. Let’s see, yeah foot down. Josiah Scott with the
interception for Michigan State. – [Announcer] Heyward to the right of Brian Lewerke. Brian throws over the middle caught by Darrell Stewart running right (mumbles) at the 20, he’s at the 15 and has a first down. The snap back to Brian, guns it this time toward the left pylon. – Alright.
– Caught in the end zone, Cody White, touchdown M-S-U! – [Announcer] Offensive
coordinator Brad Salem has to be happy with that
TD, Michigan State takes a 14 to three lead here. – [Announcer] Not surprisingly,
the Michigan State defense setting the tone for this game. – [Announcer] They’ve been remarkable, I mean really difficult to
run the football against. – [Announcer] Lewerke
gets hit but his pass is on target, another first down as Darrell Stewart makes the catch. (crowd cheering) Collins with a ton of running
room, another first down. Michigan State’s starting to lean on that defensive line of Northwestern. – [Announcer] Lewerke, little play fake goal line pass.
– There ya go. – [Announcer] It’s caught by Matt Seybert in the end zone, touchdown M-S-U. First touchdown, career
wise for Matt Seybert came at a big time for the Spartan’s here in the Big 10 opener. – [Announcer] He’s in trouble here, sack by Raequan Williams. – [Announcer] Snap back to Smith, right side throw.
– Pick. – [Announcer] Intercepted,
it is batted by the Spartan’s and lands in the lap of Drew Beesley. – [Announcer] And here’s
a pass by Lewerke, Seybert stretches out and is in for his second touchdown.
(whistle blowing) (players yelling) – [Announcer] And to think about it I mean 110 wins in today’s day and age that’s just rare, and
that’s rare fight air. And to do so to in a league that is so incredibly competitive
year in and year out. – [Announcer] He steps back, takes a knee it is all over, the Spartan’s win 31 to 10 and Mark Dantonio is
the Spartan’s all time winningest football coach,
passing the legendary Duffy Daugherty here this afternoon. He win’s today big at
Northwestern 31 to 10 and it’s victory number one ten in his Spartan career. – [Coach Dantonio] A
little help from my friends – [Players] Hey! – Wanna thank everybody, we’re one and O in the Big Ten Conference. One and O, got I-U coming
up this weekend, homecoming. That’s a big win, it’s a way to respond, nothings easy, nothings easy. We got it done, outstanding job
by everybody in the program. – We’ve had some great
moments in this locker room. For those that have been in the program, 2011 we were legends champions, 2013 we won championships, but this is a historic day in
123 years of Spartan football this is a historic day that
you guys all made possible. – [Players] Oh, oh oooo! Yeah! P-D-A! – Thanks guys! (players yelling) – [Players] Yeah! – Now we got to count it up. Can we count it up? Can we count it up?
– Turn sideways. – One chance?
– Yeah! – Let’s go! One ten, one ten! – Here we go guys, ready. – [Group] Mmm, one two
three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. One, two, three, four, five,
six, seven, eight, nine, ten. One, two, three, four, five,
six, seven, eight, nine, ten. One, two, three, four, five,
six, seven, eight, nine, ten. One, two, three, four, five,
six, seven, eight, nine, ten. One, two, three, four, five,
six, seven, eight, nine, ten. One, two, three, four, five,
six, seven, eight, nine, ten. One, two, three, four, five,
six, seven, eight, nine, ten. One, two, three, four, five,
six, seven, eight, nine, ten. One, two, three, four, five,
six, seven, eight, nine, ten. One, two, three, four, five,
six, seven, eight, nine, ten. One, two, three, four, five,
six, seven, eight, nine, ten! (team cheering) – Accumulation of a lot of
work by a lot of people, you know whether it’s my immediate family, or my players, all the players
that have been through here. Their families, all the
coaches that have been through, the administrators,
and supporters, donors. You know it’s a group effort, that’s what it signifies
to me is group effort and it’s a lot tougher to
get it done than you think cause this is a lot closer
game than you would think. (upbeat hip hop music)
