Former Liverpool star Nick Tanner is world No.1 at Fantasy Football

Former Liverpool star Nick Tanner is leading seven million players at Fantasy Football  The 54-year-old, who made 59 appearances and scored one goal for the Reds, goes into the second international break of the season on 568 points – 10 more than his closest challenger   His in-form team, called winorloseonthebooze, contains just two Liverpool stars in Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah  But bold pre-season selections of the likes of John Lundstram, Todd Cantwell and Mason Mount have paid dividends  Remarkably, Tanner is only playing Fantasy Football for the second time and has decided to take it seriously this year because his pals had a wager on the league   “I hadn’t even done fantasy football before last season. My lad William set up a league with his mates and I joined that but I didn’t really know the rules,” he told  The Athletic  “I was so far behind that I lost interest and gave up. But this time around 25 of us stuck a tenner in each so I decided to take it more seriously  “I studied the rules and made sure I knew exactly what the deal was in terms of earning points  “They were all taking the piss at the start saying ‘old man, you haven’t got a chance’ They aren’t taking the piss anymore!”  Tanner made his Liverpool debut in December 1989 after being bought from Bristol Rovers for £20,000  But his playing career was cruelly cut short at the age of 28 due to a persistent back problem, with his final appearance coming in 1992  Now, Tanner is something of a Fantasy Football connoisseur.  He claims that the secret to success is to spend money on expensive midfielders and strikers – and do not waste your money on those further back  Using your bonuses early also helps to build an early lead, giving you points on the board to subsequently keep you interested   He also claims that you should stay away from Manchester City players due to the extreme squad rotation system – despite having Raheem Sterling in his side
